INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

Orientation of the journal
Editors of the Journal of Mechanical Engineering accept and
publish only original theoretical and experimental papers con-
cerning mechanical engineering problems. Submission of an article
implies that it has not been published previously elsewhere. The
submission languages are English (preferably), Slovak and Czech.

Submission of papers
Authors are requested to submit two hardcopies of the article
to the following address:
Editorial Office of Strojnicky Casopis (Journal of Mechanical En-
gineering), Racianska 75, 831 02 Bratislava, Slovak Republic.
Articles submitted via e-mail are accepted as well.

Extent of papers
The text with figures and tables should not exceed 15 pages.
Letters to the Editor, reports and information articles should ha-
ve no more than 3 pages.

Structure of papers
   Follow  this  order  when typing manuscript in English:  title;
full names of authors (without scientific titles); abstract (75 -
150 words); key words in English ( no more than 6); introduction
(including discussion of state of the art and presentation of main
outlines of the article); main text (divided into chapters, e. g.
experiment,  results, discussion,  conclusion);  acknowledgements;
references. In the case of the paper written in Slovak/Czech,
English keywords, English abstract and translation of the paper
title into English are required as well. Authors´ affiliations
with full postal addresses and e-mail address of the corresponding
author should be given on the title page, as a footnote.

Equations
Equations should be written legibly, so that indices, exponents
and differences between capitals and small letters can be distin-
guished clearly.

References
The references are to be formatted as a new paragraph at the
end of the text with commonly accepted shorthand notations.

Tables and figures
Tables should be concise, numbered with Arabic numerals and
should contain text headers. Tables and figures should not be the
subject of mutual duplicity. If the article language is Slovak or
Czech, the English translation of table headers and figure cap-
tions is requested as well.
Hairlines should not be used in the figures. Considering the
figures reduction, the font and figure sizes should be propor-
tional: e.g. square figure with the side of 10 cm - the smallest
used font size (indices) 3.5 mm (15 cm - 5 mm; 20 cm - 7 mm). The
plots and diagrams should be framed, the coordinate axes labelled
by corresponding symbols and their dimensions, the last ones in
square brackets.
Figures should be printed on laser printer with minimum resolu-
tion of 600 dpi or drawn on drafting paper.

Text layout
Article text should be written with font size 12, on one side
of the paper sheet only (size A4), with double spacing. The pages
should be numbered. Tables with their headings should be presented
in the manuscript, after references. Each of figures should be
presented on a separate sheet of paper, numbered and supplied with
authors´ names. Its position in the text should be marked in pen-
cil on the page margin. Figure captions should be presented in the
manuscript, after the tables. The SI system units should be used
in the article.
For the review purposes, 2 copies of the article printed on pa-
per (size A4) should be sent to the editors. The e-mail address
and telephone number of the corresponding author should be given
in the covering letter.

Electronic version of the article
The most preferable program for electronic text processing is
the Microsoft Word text editor (version 2000 or former)in doc for-
mat. MS Excel, CorelDraw (version 9 or former) or a bit map (pho-
tographs 300 dpi, other figures 600 dpi) are suitable formats for
the figures. In the case that the plots are processed in MS Excel,
present them in xls format. If some other programs are used (e.g.
Statistica, Sigma Plot) the plots should be inserted into MS Word
and presented in doc format. If the figures are in a graphic for-
mat (e.g. bmp, jpg, tif), they should be presented in this format
and not to be inserted into MS Word. Half tone figures ( grey sha-
de) should be electronically processed and presented in one of the
recommended graphic formats. Article text, tables with headings
and figure captions should be included in one separate file, e. g.
article.doc. Each figure should be presented in a separate file as
well, e.g. Fig1.doc, Fig2.doc, Fig3.jpg.
Once the article is accepted by the Editor, its final electron-
ic version (on CD-ROM) should be presented together with 2 hard-
copies of the manuscript.
Corresponding author will obtain a free copy of the journal for
each of the authors and 10 free offprints.
